Restylane is a safe and natural cosmetic dermal filler that restores
volume and fullness to the skin to correct moderate to severe facial
wrinkles and folds, such as the nasolabial folds more commonly known
as smile lines. Restylane is also used to provide more fullness
to the lips and to remove the small fine lines around the mouth
associated with aging.
Restylane, unlike collagen, is made from non-animal based hyaluronic
acid. Hyaluronic acid is a natural substance that already exists
in the human body and is used to provide volume and fullness to
the skin. The hyaluronic acid in Restylane is a crystal clear gel
called Non-Animal Stabilized Hyaluronic Acid (NASHA). NASHA is biodegradable
and completely biocompatible with human hyaluronic acid. This quality
helps eliminate any risk of animal-based disease transmission or
possible allergic reaction.
Restylane has been used safely and effectively by dermatologists
and plastic surgeons worldwide since 1966. The most commonly reported
side effects are temporary redness and swelling at the injection
site. These typically resolve within one to two days. To help reduce
these side effects, it is best to avoid using aspirin and aspirin-containing
products, herbal remedies, or high doses of vitamin E supplements
for two weeks prior to your scheduled appointment. Also, if you
have ever suffered from facial cold sores, there is a risk that
the needle punctures could contribute to a recurrence.
The most common question I receive is “How long does it last?”
Studies have shown that the average treatment results last six months
or longer. Since Restylane lasts twice as long as collagen, treatments
are usually scheduled twice a year. There is evidence showing that
having a touch up treatment before the product has fully dissipated
enhances the lasting effect.
The Restylane is injected directly into the skin in tiny amounts
by an ultrafine needle, resulting in minimal discomfort. The procedure
is simple and convenient, and results are practically instantaneous.
To optimize your comfort during the short procedure, a local anesthetic
to the treatment area is often given.
Since Restylane is a customized procedure based on your specific
needs, the cost will vary from patient to patient. Due to its long-lasting
effects, Restylane has proven to be very economical over the long
term.
For all the women who would like to erase the signs of aging but
do not have the time, money or desire for the extreme makeover,
cosmetic fillers may be your answer.
